Questioning Do Not Tell

I’ve received emails from readers about my “do not tell” policy. Not surprisingly, some would like to know the identity of their admirers.

I give you exhibit A:

i know your rule is to never tell, but if you tell me, i will respond with whether or not i have a mutual crush on this person.  you can then put this anonymously on the site, and perhaps a connection will happen”

Here’s the thing… anonymity is what makes this so great. I don’t want to compromise that fact. Yet, at the same time I think you’re right in that we could make this more interesting.

Here’s my proposal-  after your confession you can chose to add “okay to connect” following the identity of your TumblCrush. I will only reveal your Tumblr identity to your crush if and only if your crush comes back to me with an interest in knowing your identity. If not, than I’m sorry, but your admirer will be kept anonymous unless they have the chutzpah to tell you on their own.

Now, if your TumblCrush comes to me and wants to know, but you did not specifically say “okay to connect” in your email than I will delete the request and will keep your secret hush-hush forever and eternity.

If both parties are interested than I will send you both a note. I will then leave the communication up to you.
